Keratin Treatment in Poole: My Experience with Jen Colour + Keratin

If you have naturally curly, frizzy or unruly hair and spend far too much time trying to tame it, I may have found an absolute game-changer.

I recently tried a keratin treatment in Poole with Jen Colour + Keratin, based at Storm Hair on Ashley Road, and after putting it through the ultimate test - a week on holiday involving heat, swimming pools and the sea - I’m seriously impressed.

The best bit? I still have my natural curls. Just without all the frizz.

Why I Tried a Keratin Treatment for My Curly Hair

I have naturally curly, frizz-prone hair which is also colour treated. Jen has been doing my colour for a while and is brilliant at it, but I’d never considered having a keratin treatment because I assumed it would mean losing my curls and having permanently straight hair.

Then I saw a friend who has very similar hair to mine.

Her hair looked incredible: naturally curly but smoother, shinier and without the halo of frizz I know only too well! I immediately asked what she’d had done.

Can You Have a Keratin Treatment and Keep Your Curls?

This was my biggest question – and exactly what I discussed with Jen before we started.

I didn’t want straight hair. I love having curly hair. What I wanted was to keep my natural texture while reducing the frizz and making my hair quicker and easier to manage.

Jen was warm and welcoming and took the time to talk through my hair type, its condition and exactly what I wanted the finished result to be.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, the treatment can be adjusted depending on your hair and how much of your natural curl you want to retain. Jen selected the appropriate percentage mix for the result we were trying to achieve.

What Happens During a Keratin Hair Treatment?

Jen started by thoroughly washing and preparing my hair so it was ready for the treatment.

The keratin treatment was then carefully applied throughout my hair, working through it to make sure it was evenly distributed.

After the treatment had been applied, processed and washed out,  my hair was dried before Jen worked through it meticulously in small sections with straighteners. This heat stage helps seal the treatment into the hair.

My hair was incredibly straight and glossy (but still had some lovely bounce) when I left the salon, but importantly, that wasn’t intended to be my permanent finished style.

We were waiting to see what happened when I washed it and my natural curl pattern returned.

And I didn’t have long to wait to put it to the test…

The Ultimate Test: Taking My Newly Treated Hair on Holiday

I flew on holiday the very next day.

I packed my straighteners because I was absolutely convinced I’d still need them at some point.

I didn’t use them once.

That is probably the biggest compliment I can give this treatment!

Once I was able to wash my hair, I simply added a little curl cream and left it. My natural curls came back beautifully, but without the usual mass of frizz.

It felt much smoother and was unbelievably easy to manage.

Even better, we were on a hot holiday where I was regularly in and out of the swimming pool and sea, and my hair still looked great.

Instead of spending part of my holiday washing, blow-drying and straightening my hair only for heat, humidity or water to undo everything, I could simply embrace my natural curls.

Is a Keratin Treatment Worth It for Frizzy, Curly Hair?

For me, absolutely.

The biggest difference hasn’t simply been how my hair looks – it’s how little I have to do to it.

If you’re a busy woman who normally spends ages blow-drying, straightening or trying to control frizz before work, the time-saving element alone is huge.

My hair is still my hair. It’s still curly and has its natural movement and texture.

It’s simply smoother, less frizzy and significantly easier to manage.

And that’s exactly what I wanted.
